]]> Flame Retardant Service is available for all our Oriental Rugs and Decorative Area Rugs. The treatment is applied before shipping and a certificate of the treatment on our letterhead will be mailed to you. Our Flame Retardant product is a leading fire resistant treatment that is accepted by federal, state and municipal building codes for use pertaining to flame retardenty of decorative materials, including rugs, when used in areas of public assembly or egress. The product meets the nationally recognized standards of the N.Y. State Uniform Fire Prevention and Building Code 15, Part 1120, which requires that fire resistant chemicals be used for treating decorative materials. Many cities and states have established on-going flame retardant maintenance cycles, protocol and re-certification programs for fire retardant decorative materials whose cycles vary in length of time.
Any flame retardant or resistant decorative item that has had its fire resistant coating removed, compromised or has had a flammable coating (including but not limited to airborne dust and flammable paints) applied or adhered to its surface, will have negated its flammability rating and must be, at that point, maintained to certify its original flame retardant condition.
Over time, flammable dust alone will accumulate on these items and this coating must be removed. During this removal, there is no guarantee of how much flame retardancy is also removed from the item. The material must then be retreated again to meet code standards.
We suggest, as established local code standards require, proper maintenance of flammability requirements of the rugs be met. Over time, it is the responsibility of the local building management to adhere to local flammability standard requirements after the initial treatment is applied by PIR.
